Don Sincell, editor of The Republican newspaper and president of Sincell Publishing Company, was named the 2011 Honorary Golden Ambassador of the 44th annual Autumn Glory Festival during the festival kickoff dinner and reception held last night at the Wisp in McHenry.
Sincell, along with the 2009 winner of the award Bob Rudy, were the co-founders of the Oktoberfest that has been sponsored by the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department durign the Autumn Glory Festival for the past 33 years, and tonight will mark the 34th consecutive year that Sincell has played trombone in the band which he organized in 1978.
Sincell has also participated in the festival's Grand Feature parade almost every year since he was in high school, occasionally either marching or riding in more than one unit in the same parade. Because members of the Ali Ghan Shrine Band are among those who play in the OVFD Oktoberfest band, Sincell typically plays trombone with that organization in the parade. He has also been a participant in the AGF Firemen's Parade and worked a number of years with the annual AGF Tournament of Bands as a Southern High School Band Booster.
Sincell Publishing Company is the owner of the Front Page Stage in downtown Oakland, the use of which is donated every year during the festival for pre-parade entertainment.
