FireFly Farms Receives Blue Ribbon Small Business Award from U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Accident, MD (PRWEB) March 11, 2012

FireFly Farms (http://www.fireflyfarms.com), producer of artisan goat cheeses from Maryland’s Allegheny Plateau, received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Small Business Award. Seventy-five companies across the country were named winners on March 1, 2012.

“These award winners embody the spirit of American free enterprise,” said Tom Donohue, U.S. Chamber president and CEO. “More important than profits, their successes have provided much-needed jobs and hope to the people in their communities.”

The awards program, sponsored by Sam’s Club®, honors companies that demonstrate excellent business practices in several areas, including strategy, employee development, community involvement, and customer service.

“FireFly Farm’s success is directly due to the talents and diversity of its staff and its local farming partners,” commented Mike Koch, FireFly Farms president and co-founder. “We are so very honored to be recognized by our community and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce through this award. All of us are committed to strengthening our local economy, sustainable agriculture, and the local food movement – especially local artisan goat cheeses!”

Firefly Farms, producer of goat cheeses from Maryland's Allegheny Plateau, has earned a top honor at this year's American Cheese Society's annual conference, which was held in Montreal, Canada.

FireFly's aged goat cheese, Mountain Top Bleu, received the first place ribbon, beating out numerous other blue-veined goat cheeses. The ribbon marked the 14th individual honor received by Mountain Top Bleu, which has been recognized by Saveur Magazine as one of its 50 favorite American cheeses.

"This is the 44th individual award for our FireFly Farms product line," explained Matt Cedro, head cheese maker.

"It always feels great to have our work recognized on the national stage. We are very proud of all our cheeses and to receive this type of recognition is wonderful."

"It all began nearly 10 years ago with a first-place ribbon for Mountain Top Bleu at the ACS in 2002," added Mike Kock, FireFly Farms president.

"As we move our creamery to Accident and prepare to expand our business, it's greatly fulfilling that Mountain Top Bleu has remained America's best."

Three FireFly Farms' Cheeses Earn Top Honors

Sep. 23, 2010

FireFly Farms, producer of artisanal goat cheeses from Maryland’s Allegheny Plateau, recently announced that three of its aged goat cheeses received top honors at the American Cheese Society’s (ACS) annual conference and judging held in Seattle, Wash.
The 2010 Judging & Competition saw a record number of entries: 1,462 cheeses and cultured milk products from 225 different producers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A total of 350 ribbons were awarded in 107 different distinct categories.

"The increase in this year’s entries mirrors the fantastic growth we’re seeing in the industry. As more people strive to make excellent cheese, they are turning to ACS for feedback about their products," said ACS president Christine Hyatt. "The vision of our founders was not only to recognize the best cheeses in our industry, but also to offer feedback and guidance that will improve the quality of all cheeses produced in the Americas. This philosophy is still at the heart of our judging process today."

FireFly Farms' aged goat cheese, Black & Blue™, received the first place ribbon competing in a class against other blue-veined cheeses made from goat's milk. This ribbon is the fourth individual honor received by FireFly Farm’s Black & Blue. These honors now include consecutive first place finishes in the ACS judging for 2008, 2009 and 2010.
