High Mountain Sports hosted the Capita Snowboard Pro Team at its retail location at Deep Creek Lake for a meet-and-greet event on Saturday, the day the area was hit with an early 9-inch snowstorm, and the guests just could not resist strapping on their boards to take advantage of the conditions. One of the pros is pictured above catching lots of air off the surrounding stone walls. Capita Pro Team members present were sales rep Brad Bradley, marketing and board designer Sean Tedore, Capita pros T.J. Schneider and Cale Zima, and Capita amateur Mike Ravelson.

Snow in Garrett County for Thanksgiving?

Brian Edwards, a meteorologist with the State College, Pa.-based forecasting service, said most of Maryland is not expected to see anything more disruptive than rain through the Thanksgiving weekend. He said there could be Great Lakes-effect snow to the north and west but that temperatures ii Maryland are not expected to drop to a level where snow or ice can form...

And surprise of surprises, Garrett County could have snow by late that weekend.

This herd of deer may be a little confused when the lake is no longer passable on foot (hoof?), which actually may be the case by now. The animals were seen and photographed by Vaughn Miller last Thursday as they made their way across the ice. Deer have had a rough time this winter, struggling to find food under so many feet of snow. But the grasses are beginning to rise up out of the remnants of the white stuff now, as the temperature has been far above freezing for several days, providing the first warm stretch the county has had in more than four months. Spring-like weather is to continue for some days, although there is a chance of snow on Monday. Such is March on the mountaintop.

Welcome back winter! 2-3 inches of fresh powder!

The roads were clear until I hit Little Sandy's hill this morning, and from there on, it was a little sloppy. But, if you ask me, I would rather deal with the cold white snow than the gloomy rain we have been receiving.
