Competing against nominees from across the state, Garrett County's Barn Quilt Festival has been recognized with the award for the 2010 Best New/Improved Product or Event. The county received the award from the Maryland Tourism Council on Nov. 4, at the 30th annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit, held in Annapolis. As a supporter of the event, the Chamber of Commerce applied on behalf of the Barn Quilt Association of Garrett County.
The Best New/Improved Product or Event Award is meant to recognize Maryland Tourism Council members for their efforts in the year’s best new or improved event, tour destination, program, promotion, or experience. The nominees are judged on innovation, the example set for others, and on the event’s success as a Maryland tourism product. Winners are determined by a panel of judges composed of past recipients of the award.
The first Quilt Festival was held on Aug. 1 and featured a live auction, a 50/50 drawing, a brown bag auction, arts and crafts vendors, live music, kids’ games, food, recognition of the current barn blocks, and the unveiling of the latest barn quilt block at Cove Run Farms.
